Introduction

Over the years, Singapore has transformed from “backward” city into a bustling and modern city which is the envy of many countries. These changes can be seen in various spheres from the economy to the social and political spheres.

In this project, you will focus on the economy and more specifically on the evolution of the occupations. As you embark on this project, you will get to discover the different occupations available in Singapore in the past, and how they have changed over the years. You would also have to research and suggest on the reasons for these changes.

For instance, in the past, people would go to chettiars to borrow money. However, today money lending is done mostly through legal agents such as banks. There are various reasons for this including ensuring a more regulated system of borrowing and lending money and prevent individuals from extorting exorbitant interest from borrowers.
